All Kinds of Stuff in This Blog

I'm writing this blog all cozy in my apartment while a blizzard, or as we obnoxiously call it, a 'NorEaster,' is happening right outside the window. It's gonna be nice not to have to get up and shovel in the morning, but I really hope we don't lose electricity. I'm here all by myself so it would prolly suck. Speaking of all by myself, I'll be here alone for over a week when Sarah and Nicole go to Hawaii! It's gonna get boring I think.

I am currently in the championship in my fantasy football league. It's my first time doing it, paired with my father, so it's pretty cool to be close to taking all the marbles right off the bat. My team admittedly isn't doing too great right now, but he's got two running backs out, one that was injured in the first quarter with -2 points and he failed to check if maurice jones-drew was playing, which he isn't. So if I lose to a guy with two players out, I'll be pretty pissed. I'm looking forward to having my own team next year, as I was constantly checking the website this year for any new developments.

After just 2 weeks in the cash game challenge, I'm moving up!!!! It's on to $.02-.05. I just won an $8 pot with pocket Aces, which is huuuuge at the lowest stakes, That helped me over the cusp to just over $28. I'm playing really well and finally getting back into my usual style of play that made me so successful before. Having a lot of fun doing it as well.

The job is going great. I'm learning a ton of stuff related to acocunting and enjoying every minute of the relaxed work environment. I'm very excited to be part of this company and have great feelings about it's future success.

I think that's about it for now. Maybe this is starting a new trend of blogging more than once every 3 months! ;) Stay warm out there New England.

Gonna Try It Again

So I've decided to give the cash game challenge another try. For those of you who don't know, I'm gonna start with $10 on Full Tilt Poker at $0.01-$0.02 blinds and work my way up through the levels. The goal right now is $10 - $10,000. Once I get 500 BBs of the next level, I can move up. It's my second real attempt at it (other attempts usually lasted for about a week or two then I put my whole bankroll on a tourney), but I'm really gonna try hard at this one. After again buying in with 100 or so, winning my way up to 700 or 800 really quick, and then gradually losing it all, I'm not ready to do that again. I feel I must be doing something wrong lately, so I'm just gonna start over and relearn my winning strategy. Hopefully it works out for me.

Other than that, still lovin work, got a little extra dough from another painting side job, and just enjoying the Christmas season. Hope all is well with all my faithful and adoring readers.

Musical Influences

I know what you're thinking.... Who is this guy that has musical influences? What the hell's it influencing? Well.. I dunno. I mean somewhat in my compositions but i guess it's just an overall influence. Not quite sure what that means but maybe it'll be clearer when I'm done explaining what they are.

I've always been big into this guy, but my appreciation for Jason Robert Brown's work is growing more and more every time I listen to him. I was listening to "Hear My Song" the other day on my walk to my car and I really realized that every note has a distinct purpose. Nothing is accidental (no pun intended). To be that absurdly talented both at writing the music he writes, which is intensely difficult, and playing it just amazes me every time.

The main thing that draws me to artists is how passionate they are. If they truly feel the music they're singing, the listener knows, and can feel it just as strongly. My prime example for this is Jeff Buckley, another artist who I don't think I'll ever stop listening to. While listening to a live version of "Morning Theft," he sang one part towards the end of the song and I swear I was close to tearing up just at how beautiful it was. He put a million emotions into one phrase and it was impossible not to be truly touched. Another good example was when he was playing at a tribute concert for his late father Tim Buckley. It was before he got big and nobody really knew much about this kid, except that he looked a lot like his father. Well about 3/4 of the way through one of his father's songs, "Once I Was," a string broke on his guitar. Rather than stopping and getting a new guitar, he finished the song a cappela. He got so emotionally lost in his performances everything else just went away and all he cared about was that music. I can't help but respect, admire, and aspire to that. If interested, there are youtube videos of all the songs I've mentioned.

Last for this blog is Tom Waits. I have just recently been getting into this guy, but I am loving him more and more with each song I hear. I think I have developed a full appreciation of his talent. He has a voice that takes some time for most to get used to, as it is very gravelly and not exactly angellic, but it has a quality that not many artists have. Again, he has the power to fill his words with such emotion it is impossible to ignore. Listening to one of his songs, you feel the true pain of most of the unfortunate people he is singing about, or the real happiness that you can sometimes find in the world. It's artists that can touch your soul that are the ones you want to keep listening to.

I know I've probably written similar blogs before, but hey music is my passion so I really can't help it. More to come I'm sure.

As Salaam Alaikum.
