Happiness and Sadness

I absolutely love the Christmas season. Although a few things come close to ruining it, I still feel it's the best time of the year (I didn't use the term "most wonderful time of the year" because of the risk of sounding entirely too cheesy.) The few things are of course the crazy drivers, crazier shoppers, and the fact that it's becoming more about selling things and losing sight of the true meaning of Christmas. Despite these things, I still try to spread Christmas cheer wherever I go. I am helped immensely in this by the new Christmas CD Josh Groban just put out called "Noel." My favorite singer singing my favorite kind of songs, it really doesn't get any better than that. I would just like to ask everyone to do a few small things, preferably all year round but Christmas is a good time to start: Just be friendly. Hold that door for someone, pick up that package they dropped, basically just do things for other people. Doing these small things here and there will not only make their day better, but it will allow you to feel better about yourself as well.

On a sadder note, one of the greatest poker players ever to play the game, David "Chip" Reese, died on Wednesday at the age of 56. I think the cause of death was pneumonia. For some reason, I feel a particular sadness from this, probably because I play and I fully appreciated how good he was. He basically taught me how to play winning Seven Card Stud from his writings in the book "Super System." I'm sure his loss is being felt throughout the poker community. I've heard he was one of the nicest men to walk the planet and never said a bad word about anybody. He will surely be missed.

Poker Draught

So i'm not doing too well with online poker so i think i'm gonna take a break for a little bit. Maybe even a month or so. This may not seem like a long time but trust me i'll be scratching and cold-sweating the whole time. I've got plenty of schoolwork to do so i'll probably do some of that during my long hours off.
Of course i'll still watch poker on TV, which i'm doing right now. High Stakes Poker on GSN is one of my favorite shows. You get to see the absolute best players in the game playing for stone cold cash. No tournament setting, no 1st or 2nd place. They're betting with their own money. The table i'm watching right now is just chalk full of talent. Doyle Brunson, Sammy Farha, Eli Elezra, Barry Greenstein, Antonio Esfandiari, and these are just a few of the superstars that are on the show during the season. They usually put about $100,000 each on the table, but for this episode they all put up $500,000. It's great for a poker player to watch them do the perfect moves and win hundreds of thousands of dollars. Makes me envious ;) Maybe some day i'll be at that level, after making enough money to afford it of course.
Is it weird that i'm also switching back and forth between that and the Hills? I dk what it is about that show but for some reason i can never stop watching it. lol Also South Park, Family Guy, and House are on Monday nights. By far my favorite night for TV.
I think i've rambled enough for one night. Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and eats a lot. :)

So i realized the other day that there's probably nobody actually reading my blog. I'm gonna keep writing anyway cuz it's kind of fun, but if anyone is reading my posts feel free to comment. :)

Red Sox!!

So i'm a huge Red Sox fan and it is absolutely amazing that I'm watching them in the World Series right now. And of course they're winning. :) It's so great to watch a team troughout the entire season and go to the games and cheer them on and then see them doing well in the biggest games in baseball. It's especially sweet for us Red Sox fans who have had to wait for so long, but we're definitely making up for lost time now. I'm now gonna go back and watch the greatest team in Baseball.

Poker

One of my favorite things to do is play poker. Online, at a friend's house, at a poker room, basically anywhere i can play. I play online as much as i can, which usually turns out to be every day and mostly several hours of that day. I just love the game and getting to know absolutely everything there is to know about it. I feel i'm becoming a very knowledgeable player, although i'm still young and have a lot more learning to do. I mostly play no limit Texas Holdem, which is the big craze that everyone is getting into. I got into it when I was about 16, right before it started hitting really big. I was absolutely awful, and one of my friends in particular got really mad at me most of the time. Then I started playing more and more and I'd invite some other friends to play, and suddenly I was the best player there because they were all new. I think this helped me a lot because I immediately started winning a good amount of money, which of course fed my craving to continue. As I learned more about the game each time I played, I started realizing more and more exactly the skill that goes into playing it. Skills like knowing which starting hands to play, being able to read people correctly, having the patience and the knowledge of the other players at the table to get the most out of every pot. Every situation is different in poker, which is why I am so attracted to it. I have never gotten bored at a game, because there's just so much to take in even if you're not in the hand. I think I'm gonna stop here cause i'm getting crazy, but I will most likely be posting more about poker in the future.

Me

Okay so here's that post that's supposed to describe me. My name's Mike (in case you didn't already figure that one out). I'm basically a pretty easy-going guy. My life consists almost entirely of poker and music, with school fitting in their somewhere. I go to college for Accounting and Finance. That's fun. Yeah I think those are pretty much the main points. I'm gonna go back to playing some more poker now. Thanks :)

First Blog

Hey everyone,
So this is my first blog ever. It's a project for school, so I basically have no idea what I'm doing right now. I'm typing away though so it probably looks pretty good from the teacher's point of view. I'll probably make some more entries later, maybe describing myself and all that stuff I think you're supposed to do on these things. Thanks for reading. :)
